N-6020

Specification
AWS Specification: AWS A5.1 E6020
JIS Specification: D4320
Other Specification: N/A
Description
  • N-6020 has a heavy mineral type of coating and is outstanding for high speed and quality downhand welds
  • The heavy coating permits the use of high welding currents without undue spatter and provides very rapid deposition and burn off rates
  • Arc action is forceful and provides deep penetration especially at high currents
  • Bead contour in deep grooves is concave and flat in horizontal fillets
  • Thick slag covering is porous, brittle, and easy to remove
  • Deposited metal has outstanding mechanical properties including good tensile strength, impact qualities, high ductility, and no porosity

NOTE:

The information contained or otherwise referenced herein is presented only as “typical” without guarantee or warranty, and Industrial Welding Corporation expressly disclaims any liability incurred from any reliance thereon. Typical data and test results for mechanical properties, deposit, or electrode composition and other properties were obtained from a weld produced and tested according to prescribed standards and should not be assumed to be the expected results in a particular application or weldment. Actual results will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to, weld procedure, plate chemistry and temperature, weldment design, and fabrication methods. Users are cautioned to confirm by qualification testing, or other appropriate means, the suitability of any welding consumable and procedure before use in the intended application.

  • Pressure vessels
  • Heavy machine weldments
  • Heavy steel and structural assemblies
  • May be used with either AC or DC (straight or reverse polarity)
  • When DC is used, reverse polarity is recommended for groove welding; straight polarity for horizontal fillet welding
  • In single pass fillet welding weaving is usually dispensed with
  • In flat butt welding, weaving is needed to assure wash-up on the side wall of the joint, but the arc is never played up the side wall
