NHF-HSS690
AWS Specification: EFe-5B
JIS Specification:

NONE

Other Specification:

DIN 8555 E4-UM-60-ST

I. APPLICATIONS:

NHF-HSS690 is used for manufacturing and reconditioning tools and in general for surfacing with high wear resistance on machines and tools. The weld metal withstands stressing by abrasions, impact compression and temperatures up to 1020ºF (550ºC).

This electrode is suitable for the production of all kinds of cutting tools, such as lathe and plane tools, large drills, countersinks, millers, broaches and for hot work tools like deburring plates, punches, hot shear blades etc.

Under the designation NHF-HSS690 we supply a special synthetic electrode.

II. WELDING PROPERTIES OF THE WELD METAL:

The electrode can be welded in all positions except vertical down. Good slag removal. The weld metal of NHF-HSS690 corresponds to a super-speed steel with high molybdenum content.

III. NOTES ON USAGE:

Bigger workpieces must be preheated to 750-1110ºF (400-600ºC) and kept at this temperature during welding.

A lower preheat temperature is enough for smaller work, because it is heated adequately by the arc. Certain jobs on smaller workpieces may even be welded without preheating. The depth of the build-up may amount to 15mm max. Slowly cool in an oven or under asbestos after welding. The weld can be machined only by grinding after it cools. If other cutting operations have to be performed on a build-up weld, annealing is necessary.

Typical data and Test results for mechanical properties, deposit or electrode composition and other properties were obtained from a weld produced and tested according to prescribed standards, and should not be assumed to be the expected results in a particular application or weldment. Actual results will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to, weld procedure, plate chemistry and temperature, weldment design and fabrication methods. Users are cautioned to confirm by qualification testing, or other appropriate means, the suitability of any welding consumable and procedure before use in the intended application.
