I. APPLICATIONS:

NIHONWELD N-6020 is designed for making deep groove welds in the downhand position as well as fillet welds in the horizontal and flat positions. The usual applications include pressure vessels and their connections, heavy machine weldments, structural assemblies and practically all heavy steel aseemblies where high weld quality is important.

     II. DESCRIPTION:

NIHONWELD N-6020 has a heavy mineral type of coating and is outstanding for high speed and quality downhand welds. The heavy coating permits the use of high welding currents without undue spatter and provides very rapid deposition and burn off rates. Arc action is forceful and provudes deep penetration especially at high currents. bead contour in deep grooves is concave, and flat in horizontal fillets; the thick slah covering is porous, brittle and very easy to remove. The deposited metal has outstanding mechanical properties including good tensile strength and impact qualities, high ductility and no porosity.

     III. NOTES ON USAGE:

NIHONWELD N-6020 may be used with either AC or DC (straight or reverse polarity). When DC is used, reverse polarity is recommended for groove welding; straight polarity for horizontal fillet welding. In single pass fillet welding weaving is usually dispensed with. In flat butt welding, weaving is needed to assure wash-up on the side wall of the joint, but the arc is never played up the side wall.
